Mirny is a remote city in Siberia, some 250 kilometres away from other towns or cities. It has a hole of more than 500 metres depth in the middle of the city. The hole is impressive as you can see on Google. In a city where temperatures can reach lows of around 50° Celsius you are right when you assume that someone must have a good reason to dig such a hole: Diamonds, found in 1957 let to the development of this gigantic mine.
